Actors / Audience
Acting companies consisted
of only men and boys, woman were not permitted to act on
any Elizabethan stage. The Actors for the Globe theatre
were primarily men and boys from Shakespeare's acting
company-The kings Men. The Shareholders including
Shakespeare, were the leading actors of the plays. The
audience consisted of people who were poor, and people
who were wealthy. The seating however, was determined by
wealth and social status. The admission rate was a penny,
but if you wanted to sit in the gallery, to be away from
the elements, you had to pay extra. The poorer members of
the audience stood in the courtyard. When a play was to
be held, a flag was raised on the top of the playhouse as
the signal to the people of the event. A trumpet was also
blown.
